Hundreds of silver hilsa are caught every day in Kalapara upazila of Patyakhali district. This silver hilsa is supplied from Kalapara to different parts of the country. Hilsa of Kalapara is unique in quality and quantity. Hilsa is a marine fish but this fish lays eggs in large rivers. When the eggs hatch and the baby grows, the hilsa fish returns to the sea. Fishermen catch this fish on their way back to the sea. Although hilsa is a saltwater fish or marine fish, most of the time it lives in the sea
But for propagation, it crosses a distance of about 1,200 km and accumulates in rivers in the Indian subcontinent. The common distance of rivers in Bangladesh is 50 km to 100 km. At the end of the hilsa season, silver hilsa are caught in the fishermen's nets along the sea, deep sea adjacent to Kuakata. Fishing port Alipur, Mohipur, Dhos, Maudubi, Galachipa, Kuakata, Rangabali, Dasmina, along with thousands of hilsa filled in coastal fishing and fishing ports.After reaching the trawler, it is released and goes back to the sea to collect hilsa. Hundreds of local people including tourists flock to the fish ponds to see the hilsa fish. The same scene is across Kuakata Beach. The fishermen were very busy going down to the sea. Along the long stretch of Kuakata beach, fishermen go out to sea with trawlers one after another to catch hilsa.
